About Us.

Our Roots in Conservation.

The Jane Goodall Institute Nepal thrives in the vision of Dr. Jane Goodall where every individual matters. This is how our story started as well. We understand that every single action can create a butterfly effect and can bring change that otherwise would deem to be impossible. With this hope for a better world for the planet and all her inhabitants, we commenced our work in 2008 with Jane Goodall’s Roots and Shoots program that incorporated youths to create a better future for this planet and for themselves. The Jane Goodall Institute then got registered as a Not for Profit entity to expand our work to advocacy, biodiversity conservation and community engagement. Every day, our team of incredibly dedicated individuals work tirelessly to keep the work of Dr. Jane thrive by engaging in projects and campaigns that protect the very home we call home.

Our Values

Compassion, Conservation, and Collective Action form the three intrinsic values that guide our organization’s work and interventions. Compassion serves as the root, fostering empathy for all beings, our planet, and ourselves – a fundamental step in acknowledging the importance of biodiversity and our relationship with the natural world. Conservation lies at the core, focused on protecting and safeguarding biodiversity while incorporating indigenous and local knowledge. For us, conservation transcends mere numbers; it’s a long-term, impactful endeavor where communities are the true guardians. The third pillar, Collective Action, emphasizes the power of collaboration, bringing together diverse expertise, organizations, communities, government agencies, and educational institutions to drive holistic and time-bound solutions for urgent issues like climate justice and species extinction.

“At the Jane Goodall Institute, we don’t just aim to protect wildlife and preserve habitats – we strive to ignite a profound connection between humans and the natural world. Our work is a testament to the belief that when we foster a deep understanding and appreciation for nature’s wonders, we empower people to become its fiercest guardians.”
