About Us.

Our Roots in Conservation.

Established in 2013, the Jane Goodall Institute Nepal (JGIN) operates under the patronage of renowned Ethologist and conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall, globally recognized for her groundbreaking work with chimpanzees and her advocacy for animal welfare and environmental preservation. Since then, we have been utilizing tools like creative educational methods and sensitization methiods to work closely with communities on issues like climate change, extinction of species, community outreach, and inter-generational equity. Guided by the principle that every individual matters and has the power to bring positive change, JGIN is committed to protecting animal rights and preserving ecosystems through community-based education, outreach, and action. Since its inception, our organization has led impactful initiatives across Nepal, focusing on youth engagement, animal welfare, and environmental conservation.

Our Values

Compassion, Conservation, and Collective Action form the three intrinsic values that guide our organization’s work and interventions. Compassion serves as the root, fostering empathy for all beings, our planet, and ourselves – a fundamental step in acknowledging the importance of biodiversity and our relationship with the natural world. Conservation lies at the core, focused on protecting and safeguarding biodiversity while incorporating indigenous and local knowledge. For us, conservation transcends mere numbers; it’s a long-term, impactful endeavor where communities are the true guardians. The third pillar, Collective Action, emphasizes the power of collaboration, bringing together diverse expertise, organizations, communities, government agencies, and educational institutions to drive holistic and time-bound solutions for urgent issues like climate justice and species extinction.

“At the Jane Goodall Institute, we don’t just aim to protect wildlife and preserve habitats – we strive to ignite a profound connection between humans and the natural world. Our work is a testament to the belief that when we foster a deep understanding and appreciation for nature’s wonders, we empower people to become its fiercest guardians.”
